sound and music have always been central |
Adrian Budgen |
Sound and music have always been central in Adrian’s life through learning various wind instruments as a child, then later experimenting with electronics and building electronic pianos and rudimentary sound synthesisers. He began his professional life some thirty years ago with BBC Radio in London. Subsequently he studied composition at Huddersfield University (UK) with Phil Ellis and Richard Steinitz and graduated with a specialism in electroacoustic music. He went on to take up the post of Music Research Associate at Warwick University (UK) working on the Touching Sound and Designing Sound curriculum music projects. The nineties and the noughties brought new musical experiences and further study and Adrian was delighted to receive an MA in Composition with Distinction after a period of postgraduate study with Alan Bullard at Anglia Ruskin University (UK). Adrian now lives and works in Suffolk as a teacher and practitioner in sound, music and video technology. As you might expect from his background, his music often makes use of new technologies. However, he is equally at home in the world of traditionally notated music, jazz improvisation and also the more experimental soundscapes, timbral and non-pitch driven music and firmly believes that the influence these sound worlds can have on each other is nothing but positive. Adrian has written for all sorts of ensembles over the years and at one point appeared to have cornered the market in orchestral audience participation pieces with a whole string of commissions for the Ipswich Orchestral Society! More recently commissions include an anniversary march for The Barnet Band, an orchestral celebration of the Hansa League for the King's Lynn 2009 Hansa Festival premiered by the Iceni Chamber Ensemble and a concert piece jointly commissioned by the Suffolk Concert Band and The Barnet Band. |
