at the heart of British Light Music |
Paul Fenoulhet |
Paul Fenoulhet (1906 – 1979) enjoyed a long and distinguished career in popular music and radio broadcasting at the heart of British Light Music in the middle of the twentieth century. Dorothy Fenoulhet writes; ‘Paul joined the RAF at the outbreak of war and founded the famous Skyrockets Orchestra, which after the war he took to the London Palladium where he was resident conductor. He then joined the BBC as Musical Director of the BBC Variety Orchestra, later conducting and arranging for the BBC Radio Orchestra. After retiring from the BBC he continued composing on a freelance basis. Paul’s compositions are still being played both here and abroad from which I get information as to titles and programme information. Paul was always very supportive of semi-professionals and took over the Bexley Heath Band from Ted Heath. He was very interested and impressed with the Suffolk Concert Band and enjoyed working with them – their enthusiasm gave him great pleasure.’
