Kier's Story

MIRACLES IN THE UK…

Kier Dent came under Miracles’ care when he was just a baby. The family had come for a respite break at the Holiday Home we managed for Children with Leukaemia when his eldest brother was under treatment for the disease.

Kier was born with Chediak Hygashi Sydrome – a rare disorder making him light sensitive and prone to bruising at the slightest touch.

The family was very close to Miracles’ heart with Mum a voluntary Caseworker. We helped them in a wide variety of ways – and they helped us in return.

At school age Kier’s eyesight was rapidly fading so Miracles provided him with a special laptop to help with his lessons.

When he was 11-years-old the illness worsened dramatically and only a Bone Marrow Transplant could save him. The search for a Marrow Match was started in earnest, thanks to the Antony Nolan Bone Marrow Register and a near match was found in America.

Kier was taken into Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital for the long and tortuous preparation period prior to the Transplant in July. After many painful and worrying months Kier is now beginning his long road to recovery and when he is fit enough he will go on a special Training Day and meet the Stars of his favourite Football Team – Chelsea -  his real champions.
