Louis' Story
is vital for the ever-increasing number of people who fall through the net of other aid agencies and can find nowhere else to turn. Social Workers, Hospitals and Citizens' Advice Bureaux around the country rely on Miracles for a rapid response for families in the shadow of terminal sickness, for child carers living in poverty and for individual cases of extreme need.
MIRACLES IN THE UK…
Miracles’ wonder Marathon Man!
At the early age of three, I was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Receiving years of treatment, my Mother (Michelle) would always accompany me with the hospital becoming our second home. In fact for the first year, we spent close to two hundred days receiving specialist treatment and undergoing operations to eliminate the illness. Chemotherapy was a large aspect, removing all hair growth along with a Portacath being fitted, so injections could be administered without the need to find a healthy vein. My Father (Michael) often made the trip up to London after work, joining me by shaving off his hair so I wouldn’t feel left out; I’m privileged to have such wonderful and supportive parents.
However life for our family was always difficult. Balancing work commitments, caring for my younger brother and supporting a very sick child proved challenging both emotionally and financially. This is where Miracles, reached out, generously offering vital support and improving the normalities of the childhood I’ve missed. Miracles provided a variety of trips away including: visiting Santa’s Grotto in Lapland, seaside holidays, boat trips down the Thames and activity breaks at Centre Parcs. Miracles, understands that childhood cancer is equally detrimental to the parents, thus promoting quality for time the family as a whole.
And so, in accordance with Miracles ethos, my Mother volunteered to become a caseworker for the charity. Following her footsteps, I wish to dedicate a large portion of time towards helping families’ in similar positions and impacted by childhood illnesses.
Thank you for spending the time to read my story, I hope it has inspired you to donate toward a great cause and impact lives way beyond what one can imagine.
