The Miracles’ Centre is a vital part of the humanitarian work to which the charity pledged itself when it was established in l994: alleviating suffering and bringing the hope of a future worth living to so many in need.
The Centre was officially opened on 1st April 2009 funded by private donations. It is financed by La Fondation Miracles Suisse together with other Charitable Funds, among which The International Trust Fund (ITF) is a key supporter. With one Certified Prosthetist (CPO), Nihad Subasic and his assistant, Amel Mrkonjic, on average one new limb a week has been made and fitted.
Since the Centre began over 250 new limbs have been made and fitted, along with some 500 corrections as well as the many orthopaedic insoles and other essential devices. Help is freely given to amputees from all over Bosnia and of all ethnic groups – men, women and children from pensioners to prisoners
.
Miracles’ work in this area is both successful and badly needed since it is the only prosthetic service provider in the region and the only provider of free limbs in the whole of Bosnia-Herzegovina Land mine victims numbered 6,327 from l992 to l996, and from l996 to 2013 there have been 1,716 of which 600 victims have lost their lives.
These are just a few of the cases recently treated at The Miracles Centre…
Djani was born in Mostar in l982. When he was 14 he was injured by a land mine and lost his leg. In 2001 Miracles arranged for him to have a prosthetic limb fitted in the US pending the establishment of The Miracles Centre. Djani now has a new limb and works as a delivery driver. He is deeply grateful to Miracles and tells everyone that without our help he would never have been able to walk.
Jasmin's father died from a landmine blast during the Bosnian war, his older brother drowned on his last day at school, and at the age of seven, Jasmin himself was run over by tractor and his leg had to be amputated. He now needs a limb every six months but at last he is able to play his beloved football again.
Eldar is eight. He was born with no leg and lives with his family in extreme poverty and deprivation. He is now in the care of the Miracles Centre where he will be given a new leg at regular intervals as he grows up. Now Eldar is able to fulfil his dream to play football..
Dragan was referred to Miracles by the Zenica Sitting Volley Ball Club. He is 14-years old and lost his left leg in 2008 due to bone cancer. He lives near Zenica with his parents, sister and grandparents and their only source of income is the grandfather's meagre pension.
is building a future worth living for the war-torn people of BiH, bringing hope as well as humanitarian aid to the poorest of the poor. The success of its Roma Housing and Education Programme receives the highest praise while The Miracles Centre for Prosthesis and Care is an essential priority in a country still threatened by landmines.
