Amrita Jhaveri
Amrita Jhaveri was educated at Brown University and the School of Oriental and African Studies. In 1995, she was appointed as Christie's first representative in India. Over the next five years, she established auctions of twentieth-century Indian art in London.
Since leaving Christie's in 2000, Amrita has actively built a private collection of art and advised collectors informally. She is the author of 101: A Guide to 101 Modern & Contemporary Indian Artists (India Book House, 2005). Amrita has homes in London and Mumbai.

Buying works of art
When consulting on acquisitions, we consider factors such as quality, condition, rarity, and price. Every acquisition proposal we make is guaranteed to meet the demands of quality and financial soundness.
For advice on specific works, we offer a detailed market report that includes comparative auction results and a condition statement. We charge a flat fee for this service.
Frequently, we act as agents for clients wishing to acquire works of art at auction. With extensive experience in the auction industry, our counsel is unrivalled.
We are also able to negotiate purchases from dealers and private sources. We charge a commission for this service, payable upon the completion of the transaction. For purchases not made through us, we charge reasonable costs for our time.

Building a collection
Every collection should tell a story. We encourage collectors to develop a personal vision to help define their individual collections.
The first step is to understand your personal preferences along with the financial considerations that underpin them. We then develop a strategy for the collection.
For existing collectors, we can advise how best to expand and enhance the collection or how to cull it for greater coherence.
We charge an annual retainer for this service, determined by the scope of the project.

Selling works of art
Those who accumulate art often trade or sell it. This is as much a part of collecting as acquisition. With so many different ways to sell art - public auction, online sales, private dealers, and galleries - it can be difficult to know which option to choose.
Once we determine the market value of an artwork, we can advise how best to sell it, whether by auction or private treaty.
Private treaty sales are undertaken directly, or through approved intermediaries on a commission basis. Fees are calculated on a sliding scale and range between 2.5 and 10 percent.
In the case of works slated for auction, we can provide advice on location, timing, and choice of auction house. We negotiate terms on behalf of our clients and also work with auctioneers to ensure the highest standards of cataloguing, marketing, and other services.

Valuations Amrita Jhaveri is credited with the valuation of the Herwitz Collection, the largest collection of modern and contemporary Indian art in the United States comprising over 5000 works of art. AM art's knowledge and experience in this area is unparalleled.
We provide valuations for insurance. Collectors are given a fully illustrated and indexed inventory of their artwork.
Client confidentiality is of paramount importance to us. We work with international insurers, banks, and law firms who greatly value client privacy and rely on us to preserve it.
We charge per hour or per artwork. Our fees are not related to the value of the collection. We are happy to provide estimates without obligation before beginning a valuation.
What we need for a valuation
• A digital image
• Complete description (artist's name, date, medium, measurements)
• Provenance
• Exhibition and publication history
If needed, we can arrange to have works photographed and catalogued.
What a valuation includes
• One bound copy of the valuation with digital images of each artwork. Additional copies are available at a nominal cost.
• The option to have the valuation updated annually and to be informed of significant changes in the value of particular pieces that may affect the entire collection, at a mutually agreed cost.
• The opportunity to convert the valuation into a Collectors' Art Database System (CADS), an art management system that allows you to manage your collection.
• The option to view the valuation in US Dollars and another currency of your choice.

Art management
Professional management can help you preserve and protect your collection.
The Collectors' Art Database System (CADS) offers clients the opportunity to convert valuations into a proprietary database that enables them to manage their collections securely.
Designed with multi-location collections in mind, CADS makes it possible for collectors to sort and track works by location (home, office, storage), and to monitor new acquisitions, loans to exhibitions, and items being restored.
The database also provides financial summaries for groups of items sorted by artist, medium, location, status, and/or any combination of data.
