The success of any system incorporating rubber bushes is dependant on the ability of the bush to meet the required misalignment and stiffness characteristics. A good bush design requires the necessary combination of profile and compound which is encapsulated in the bush design by applying good design principles, the required expertise and well proven experience.

The outer and inner metals are usually steel and the compound is normally a natural rubber derivative. Interleaves may be incorporated into a design where the radial stiffness needs to be increased. Other characteristics can be achieved with a variety of design techniques, such as, the use of internal bearing and limiting snubber features.
