Managing Data: Unmounting Filesystems

• umount [options] device | mnt_point

• A filesystem "in use" may not be unmounted

  • use fuser to check and/or kill processes

• Use the remount option to change a mounted filesystem's options "atomically"

  • mount -o remount,ro /data
