Teaching and Resources

All the Teaching Staff at Prospect are Cambridge CELTA qualified. This is the highest standard qualification  in TEFL or ESOL teaching and all teachers have many years experience at the levels they teach.

We use course materials provided by either Oxford or Cambridge universities supplemented with exercises provided by the British Council and the BBC.

We use additional resources for specific purposes such as conversation classes, Business English and industry specific classes such as travel and tourism.

The school stocks readers for all levels and a wide range of English literature. Internet access is available both at the school and locally in Watford.

We also have an extensive video library where students can borrow videos in order to practice listening and communication skills..

We expect students to buy the student book for the course that they are on. Many schools will photocopy course books or offer a lending facility. We feel students benefit from the books including the reference sources, the tape scripts and the opportunity to revise.

Not all teaching is book based. We uses games such as Pictionary and Scrabble to encourage speaking and vocabulary and there are many other resources that add a lighter touch to the classes. We feel strongly that fun and games play an important part in the learning process. We also encourage students to read newspapers, listen to people talking on the bus or in the street, ask for products in a shop and not just pick them up from a shelf. Everything written or spoken in English is a learning opportunity.

The progress of each student is monitored throughout the course and problems and issues are dealt with as soon as they arise. At the end of each course we spend time with each student to assess their individual needs and the progress they want to make.
