About Newhaven Français
Home to
more than 11,000 residents Newhaven has a stable population with a
strong sense of community. A small bustling town, it is situated
within the South Downs at the mouth of the River Ouse.
Newhaven has a port and an active fishing fleet based at it's marina
with boats visiting from across Europe and with year round ferry
crossings to France. Rail links run to Lewes, Brighton and London
and the A26 arrives at the industrial heartland of Newhaven.
The main heritage attraction is Newhaven Fort, built in the 1860s to
deter invaders. Today it offers a warm welcome to anyone looking a
look into England's dramatic wartime past.
One of the recent major developments to Newhaven took place at the
West Quay. New attractive residential properties were build as well
as improvements to the marina and green areas around it. More work
is planned in this area.
It is our view that the successful development of Eastside Business
Park, Railway/East Quay, the port and its access road and the outer
harbour all represent the next key challenge in Newhaven's
regeneration.
