War Memorials Trust in action
War Memorials Trust is able to help in many different ways with war memorial projects of different types. This page provides guidance on what the charity can, and cannot, do.
We can:
Provide information on grants and sources of funding for war memorials
Provide guidance sheets and advice on all forms of war memorial projects
Discuss projects and issues with you
Provide information on many aspects of war memorials or direct you to the right source of information if the charity cannot help
Offer you the opportunity to be involved with the protection and conservation of war memorials through becoming a member of, or Regional Volunteer for, War Memorials Trust
We cannot:
Force action to be taken on war memorial issues as we have no statutory authority but we can encourage and try to persuade people or organisations to act appropriately
Deal with anything other than war memorials. If there is an issue with war graves please contact the Commonwealth War Graves Commission who should be able to help.
Provide detailed information on all war memorials. The UK National Inventory of War Memorials is building a record of the estimated 70,000 war memorials in the UK (although they do not have all war memorials recorded). War Memorials Trust focuses on its case work basis and does not aim to hold details of all war memorials. The UK National Inventory can be contacted at memorials@iwm.org.uk or 020 7207 9851, or visit www.ukniwm.org.uk.
This war memorial plaque was discarded in a skip in North London. Rescued by War Memorials Trust it was featured in The Sun newspaper and Channel 4's Not Forgotten programme. In conjunction with the programme producers the plaque is now being restored and re-homed.
