Small Grants Scheme

This page details the Small Grants Scheme, funds available and eligibility in the different parts of the UK. Application forms and guidance notes can be downloaded to apply for a grant. To discuss a potential grant application once you have read the details on this page then please contact the Conservation Officer on 020 7881 0862 or conservation@warmemorials.org to confirm eligibility and details on the application procedure.

Please note that War Memorials Trust is unable to fund work retrospectively, so please do not commence work prior to making and receiving a decision on your application to the scheme

England, Northern Ireland and Wales

The Small Grants Scheme assists conservation work on all types of war memorials. Grants of up to £2,500 at 50% eligible costs are available.

Scotland

If you are based in Scotland the application form you need to use with depend upon whether you are applying for a grant for a freestanding war memorial or a non freestanding war memorial. If you are making an application for a conservation project on a freestanding war memorial in Scotland you may be able to obtain additional funding which has been provided by Historic Scotland for War Memorials Trust to distribute through the Small Grants Scheme.

Freestanding war memorial

Freestanding memorials are those that stand without any support. For example a war memorial cross standing in a church yard or a statue such as the famous Black Watch memorial on The Mound or the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge.

Applicants seeking suport for conservation projects on such memorials are eligible for up to £7,500 at 75% eligible costs. A maximum of £5,000 is available from the Historic Scotland funding while the rest will be funded by WMT through its fundraising.

Non freestanding war memorial

Non freestanding war memorials, such as plaques, stained glass windows and clocks, remain eligible for War Memorials Trust Small Grants Scheme which assists conservation work on all types of war memorials. Grants of up to £2,500 at 50% eligible costs are available.
