Gazetteers
These photographs are interesting to take in a different
way, for the need is to explore the reasons for why a
feature is to be included in a list or gazetteer and to
record key features. Getting too clever about how
the photograph is taken can be counter-productive
and mask the reason the photograph is needed
This statue is in the Gordon Pleasure Grounds, Gravesend, Kent.
The grounds were laid out by Henry Ernest Milner on land
given to Gravesend by eight times Mayor George Matthew Arnold.
The statue was commissioned by the Council from Sir Herbert
Doulton to commemorate General Gordon and was erected in
1893 following Gordon's death at Khartoum in 1885
