Gazetteers

These photographs are interesting to take in a different
way, for the need is to explore the reasons for why a
feature is to be included in a list or gazetteer and to
record key features. Getting too clever about how
the photograph is taken can be counter-productive
and mask the reason the photograph is needed

Elizabeth Castle

Lichens grow on all manner of surfaces, quite a few of them
can be unexpected as with glass that has had a build-up of dust.
This concrete screed on top of the mid-nineteenth-century belfry
above the Landward Gate of Elizabeth Castle may not be as efficient
at inhibiting moisture as it once was, so a conflict can arise between
building and nature conservation issues in these circumstances.
The lichens are not the indicators of potential humidity here,
but the moss cover is
